EDB Converter Tool Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about licensing, system compatibility, standalone file processing, and migration steps for EDB Converter Tool.

Q Can I convert Exchange EDB files without an active Exchange Server or Active Directory?

Yes. Absolutely zero Exchange Server, Active Directory domain controller, or Microsoft Outlook installation is needed. Prism reads raw Exchange database pages (4KB to 32KB) directly off disk using an internal 64-bit engine that processes files directly without needing Outlook or Exchange.

Q My EDB database is in 'Dirty Shutdown' (-550) state. Can you recover my mailboxes?

Yes. A Dirty Shutdown (JET_errDatabaseDirtyShutdown -550) occurs when an Exchange Server crashes or dismounts before uncommitted transaction logs are flushed to disk. While Microsoft eseutil /p destructively truncates damaged tables, Prism operates in strict read-only mode, traverses the B-Tree structure, and extracts all healthy and orphaned mailboxes without modifying your source database.

Q What is the limitation of the Free Trial version?

The free trial allows you to load any EDB database (Priv.edb and Pub.edb), scan and discover all mailboxes (including disconnected and public folders), preview message bodies in HTML/Plain Text with full RFC headers, and export up to 50 items per folder to any of the supported target formats.

Q Does it support both Priv.edb (User Mailboxes) and Pub.edb (Public Folders)?

Yes. Prism fully supports both Priv.edb (Private Information Store containing individual user mailboxes and archives) and Pub.edb (Public Folders database). You can preview and export both database types seamlessly.

Q Which versions of Microsoft Exchange Server are supported?

Prism supports EDB databases from all Exchange Server releases: Exchange Server 5.5, 2000, 2003 (with or without companion .stm files), 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019.

Q How to convert EDB to PST with automatic file splitting?

In Step 4, select PST as the destination format and choose an automatic split boundary: 2GB, 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, or 50GB. The engine partitions large mailboxes into clean Unicode PST volumes that open smoothly in Microsoft Outlook without risk of file corruption.

Q Can I migrate EDB mailboxes directly to Office 365 without AzCopy or PowerShell?

Yes. Prism connects directly to Microsoft 365 using Microsoft Graph API and Exchange Web Services (EWS). Using Admin Impersonation, administrators can map hundreds of EDB mailboxes to their corresponding cloud user accounts in a single table and stream data directly into Office 365.

Q What happens if a 200GB migration is interrupted by a power failure or network drop?

You will not lose any progress. Prism features a built-in SQLite Checkpoint Resume Center. Every converted item is cryptographically logged. When you reopen the application, click 'Resume' and the engine will continue exactly where it left off, automatically skipping already-migrated emails.

Q Can it extract Contacts, Calendars, Tasks, and Notes from EDB files?

Yes. In Step 3, the Item Type Filter allows you to select Mails, Contacts (exported as vCard or CSV), Calendars (exported as iCal / RFC 5545), Tasks, and Notes. All items are migrated with complete metadata and recurring schedules.

Q Does this software run natively on Apple Silicon Macs?

Yes. Prism ships as a Universal Binary with native ARM64 support for Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) as well as Intel Macs. It runs natively on macOS Sequoia (15), Sonoma (14), and Ventura (13) without requiring Rosetta 2 or Windows virtual machines.

Q How to convert EDB to PDF for legal compliance and eDiscovery with Bates stamping?

In Step 4, select PDF to generate ISO 19005-1 compliant PDF/A documents. You can configure custom sequential Bates numbering (e.g. 'EXCH-CASE-000104'), set header and footer margins, and embed original email attachments as physical binary files directly inside the PDF stream.

Q Does any of my Exchange database data ever touch your cloud servers?

Prism operates on-premises. All database parsing, cryptographic hash verification, and file format conversion takes place entirely within your local machine's RAM and disk storage. No customer data is sent to external servers unless you choose cloud export destinations.

Q How will I receive my license key after purchasing?

Following successful payment, your digital license key is delivered to your billing email address. If you need your key resent or require assistance with activation, you can contact our team anytime via our Contact Support page.

Q What is the refund policy for EDB Converter Tool?

We provide free evaluation versions for all tools so you can test compatibility and conversion fidelity on your own data before buying. If you encounter a verified technical limitation or defect that our engineering support team cannot resolve, purchases are covered under the terms detailed on our Refund Policy page.
